Undergraduate Program of Pure and Applied Mathematics

This program is opened for students to grasp the basic theories and fundamental methodology of science of mathematics, and to equip them with good scientific literacy, mathematical way of thinking and the ability of cross-disciplinary analysis. It is aimed as well to enable the students to make use of mathematical knowledge and computer to solve problems in practice and to get them initiatorily trained of scientific research who then are qualified as senior inter-disciplinary personnel to engage in the research, development and teaching in technical, educational and economic departments, or the practical application, research development and management in related manufacturing, operation and management departments. The full length of the program is 4 years with major courses including Mathematical Analysis, Advanced Algebra, Geometry, Ordinal Differential Equation, Probability Theory, Modern Mathematics, Differential Geometry, Real Function Theory, Functional Analysis, Topology, College Physics, Basics of Operational Research, Mathematical Modeling, Language Program Design and Algorithm, Data Structures and Algorithms, etc. Professional courses in the fields of Partial Differential Equation, Mathematical Statistics, and Operations Research and Control are also available. Graduates of this program are awarded with Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and Applied Mathematics. The graduates are capable not only to specialize in research, teaching, technical and management areas at technical, educational, economic, management or governmental departments, but also to engage in program design, information processing, application development and technology research. Or they continue postgraduate programs with a broad range of choices like majors related to mathematics, computer science, economics, science of management and other inter-disciplinary majors with mathematics. Each year students with outstanding excellence are selected and recommended directly to Traction Power State Key Laboratory of SWJTU to continue successive postgraduate and doctoral programs of studies.

Undergraduate Program of Statistics

The study of statistics, a methodology discipline to get access to nature and society, mainly focuses on exploring the inner nature regularity of different random phenomena. The program is mathematical statistics-oriented, and is opened to cultivate senior professional personnel who, with good attainment of mathematics, statistics as well as human science, have the capabilities to master the fundamental theories and methodology of statistics and to flexibly utilize statistical methods and software for data analysis and processing. The students are able to work in the fields of development, application and management of statistical survey, statistical information management, data analysis and statistical predication at relevant enterprises, public institutions, economic management department and decision-making department of the government, to take charge of quality control management in manufacturing enterprises, or to work in the areas of teaching and scientific research at educational or scientific research departments. The length of this program is 4- years with fundamental courses including Mathematical Analysis, Advanced Algebra, Geometry, Probability Theory, ODE, Complex Variables Functions, Numerical Analysis, Mathematical Modeling, Random Process and Mathematical Statistics, as well as professional statistical courses such as Multivariate Statistics, Nonparametric Statistics, Time Series Analysis, Sampling Survey and Experiment Design, Linear Model and Application and Computational Statistics, etc. Graduates of this program are awarded with Bachelor of Science in Statistics. They are qualified to work in the development and application of statistical survey, information mining, statistical analysis, statistical quality control at public institutions, management department or economic, security or financial industry, or to engage in research and teaching at educational and scientific research departments. They may also choose to go on with further postgraduate study in the fields of statistics, management science, finance, regional planning and other inter-disciplinary majors related.

Undergraduate Program of Information and Computational Mathematics Science

This program mainly aims at the cultivation of senior professional personnel, with good attainment of mathematics, solid mathematical and computational foundation along with basic theories and methods of information science and computer science, who are able to conduct mathematical modeling analysis and to solve problems in practice via flexible use of knowledge already mastered. It is suitable for the students to work in the fields of information processing, application development, teaching, research and management in related technical, educational, economic and management departments. Features of this program are the specialization in intelligent information processing, and the strength in system optimal control. The length of this program is 4 years with major courses including Mathematical Analysis, Advanced Algebra, Geometry, Probability Theory, Mathematical Statistics, Complex Variables Functions, ODE, College Physics; Language Program Design and Algorithm, Data Structures and Algorithms, Database Principle and Design; Numerical Analysis, Basics of Operational Research, Optimization Algorithm, Computational Intelligence; Fundamentals of Information Theory, Mathematical Modeling, Application of Fuzzy Mathematics, Data Analysis, The Foundation of Control Theory, Optimization Control Theory. The graduates of this program are awarded Bachelor of Science in Information and Computer Science. They are qualified to work in the fields of processing optimization, relevant statistics analysis, and provision of quantized scientific basis for decision-making by enterprises, to engage at human resource department in quantitative personnel assessment, evaluation scheme design, and maintenance of human resource database, to take charge of quantitative analysis and calculation work at related department of project budget and decision-making analysis, or to work in the fields of software development in IT industry or relevant development and maintenance of management information system. It is also choice for the graduates to continue postgraduate study of the same major or related engineering majors.
